Twitter? It very simply!

twitter3_1Twitter is gaining in popularity more and more every day. If you haven’t started using it, I suggest you start right away.
Twitter is based on a simple idea of, “What are you doing?”
It is often referred to as “micro blogging,” because it allows you to remain in touch with an update person using 140 characters or less. Over time, you can build a following and expand your reach much the same way as with a traditional blog.
I don’t mention you use it as a tool to spam everyone with affiliate links. Twitter is more of a tool to talk about what you are currently up to and to have people visit your sites.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, let me show you how to create your own account.
Start by going to the home page of Twitter.

Click on “Get Started-Join!”

Click on “Get Started-Join!”

The next step is to create your username. Keep in mind that this are a social network and people like to know who they are following, so use your real name and photo.

You can use up to 15 characters with no spaces. Create a password enter the “Captcha” and then click on “I accept” to create your account.

Once you sign up you will be asked if you would like to add your email contacts.

You can skip that step if you like by clicking on skip.

Once you see the screen below click on “Settings.”
The screen below will allow you to set up your Twitter profile.

Add your email, time zone and your website information in the “more info URL.” box. This will create a hyperlink in your profile that will allow someone to click through to your website or blog to find out more information about you. If you don’t have a website or blog, just leave it blank. You can also add a brief bio and make sure you leave “protect my updates” unchecked. Then hit “save.”

You can also receive and send messages from your mobile phone. To set that up to click on “devices.”
Follow the directions from the page to set up your mobile phone, but standard text rates apply so you may not want to use this option. It can become rather expensive because Twitter can be addictive once you get started.
Next click on “notices.”

Just check the boxes of the notices you would like to receive by email.

The next thing you should do is upload a picture of yourself. People like to see who they are following so I recommend uploading a real picture of yourself.
Twitter also allows you to change the design of your homepage.
Click on “design,” and you will be taken to the screen below.
You can choose the default style, or you can add a background image and customize all the colours.
Now click on ‘home.” Have a look at your homepage and if everything looks good, you are ready to start Twittering.

Currently, I took new practice and created single account on Twitter for every single my site or blog with different niches, and if you want to keep attention on this blog you can to click a link on sidebar and follow me here.
Once you have added me, you can go through the list of people who I am following or the people that are following me, and begin to build a group of Twitter followers of your own.
You can also add people from the public timeline by clicking on their photo. You can then search through the list of people that are following them and begin to build your list of followers.
I recommend you pick an expert in the niche you would like to market to and begin by following the people that are following them.
Let’s use Willie Crawford as an example.
I know Willie’s markets to the make money online niche so it is likely that his followers are interested in Internet marketing. From the image above, you can see he has a lot of followers.

To build your own-targeted list of followers in the Internet marketing niche you would begin by adding the 2,000 people that are following Willie.

To begin following someone just click on “follow.”
Twitter limits the amount of people that you are allowed to follow to 2,000 until you have 2,000 people following you. However, not everyone that you start following will begin following you.
The best way to remove the people that are not following you is to wait a week to 10 days after you have added them and then use Twitter Karma to remove the people that are not following you.
From the image below you can see who is following you back and who is not. Just check the boxes of the people you wish to stop following.
Then every week just repeats the process of removing people that are not following you and that will give you the room to add more people to follow.
Repeat this process until you have thousands of targeted people following you on Twitter.
To search for people interested in your niche you can use the search function to search for specific keyword words for the market you are interested in targeting such as travel, marketing, pets, etc.
This will allow you to connect with like-minded people who will be interested in your posts.
To make a post go to the home screen and type a message of up to 140 characters and click on “update.”
Your new comment will be sent out to everyone that is following you.
The general idea is to talk about what you are doing and to generate some interest from your followers. You will have to get creative to make your comments compelling enough for people to click through. When writing, try thinking in terms of creating a very catchy email headline that grabs people’s attention.
An example would be to create an article on your blog and then make a post on Twitter such as, “Man this is just crazy check it out…(Link).” Hopefully you can come up with something a little more compelling than that, but you get the idea.
You shouldn’t try to entice people to your sites in every single post. Strive to find a balance that works.
You can equate Twitter to a conversation that you would have with a friend. In this situation, if someone were to rudely interrupt you in an overly promotional kind of way, you would be most likely ignore them.
When you use Twitter, comment sparingly, but make your comments count. Furthermore, ensure that your comments are interesting and can be easily understood by the people that are following you.
You can talk about your niche a couple of times a day and occasionally place links back to your blog. Try to make it seem as natural as possible.
You are probably starting to see that as you add more and more friends to your list that it will become viral and help you to reach a wider audience that would otherwise not have heard of you.
Once your followers begin visiting your site, you will want to have a way for them to opt-in to your email list. The best way to do that is by creating a mini-course. Make sure that your free mini-course is relevant to the target audience that is following you on Twitter.
One of the people I am following has created a blog entry about single or double opt-ins and has placed a link to their blog.
This article will appeal to Internet marketers who are trying to build their subscribers lists.
Let’s follow the link to see what they are doing with the traffic they generate.

From the image below, you can see the first thing we encounter once we click through is an opt-in box to build their mailing list.
You will receive a free report for entering your name and email.
This is a great example of how to use Twitter to build your email list. You first create a post on your blog about a compelling subject that will interest your target market.
Next create a post on Twitter with the intention of converting some of your Twitter followers into prospects. This is a very clever and free way to build your email list.
An important thing to keep in mind is to make sure you provide quality content to the people that click through to your site. Otherwise, people may not click through in the future.
You may find your Twitter list will grow faster than your email list, but remember to try to convert some of your Twitter followers into email subscribers.
Here is a quick re-cap of how to convert your Twitter followers into email subscribers:
1. Create an interesting and compelling article and post it on your site or blog.
2. Ensure you have a way for your Twitter followers to opt-in to your email list.
3. Create a compelling reason for people to click through to your site and opt-in to your subscribers’ list.
You can see that this process is employing the three core principles we covered earlier.
1. You are creating content (the blog post to attract visitors).
2. You are driving traffic to your site using Twitter.
3. You are building your mailing list with targeted prospects who are interested in your content.

You should also place Twitter widgets on your blog and Facebook profile.

Enjoy!
